Don't knock it until you try it; "La Negra"

 "La Negra" by Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán. Can I just say, what a song. It is so fun to listen to, a lot of that comes from nostalgia though. Whereas many people listened to their parents' old country music when they were young, I listened to this. I did a Spanish immersion program in elementary school and we would play this song during the yearly Spanish dance festival we did. But back to the song itself. I love the contrast between the words and the music. The music is very upbeat and fun to dance to, yet the lyrics talk about how he misses his women. I think the big appeal to this song was how simple it is. It made it fun and easy to listen to. I know I was definitely jamming out one day, not realizing how weird it probably seemed to my roommate when she walked in and saw that I was head banging to a Mariachi song. I usually only get that excited about songs like Miley Cyrus’ “Party in the U.S.A.”, a song that I can practically scream the lyrics to. And “La Negra” has mostly music with a total of 8 sentences, 3 of which are repeated, so actually 5 sentences. Again maybe it’s just nostalgia or that it’s just a quality song, but nevertheless I really like the song.

    I love that you are nostalgic about this song! It's old but it sounds like it is a very popular song still today! It's also way cool that you understand the lyrics and what the artist is trying to portray. The music is simple to listen to so every one can enjoy it but yet if you really listen to it then you can actually get more out of it.

    That is super awesome that you can relate to the song personally! I like that you looked at it from the artists perspective because that makes it seem like you understand what they were going for! It's also super awesome that you actually like the music because it probably makes it a lot more fun to listen to and learn about!

Just as long as you Stand By Me

  The music from the 60s and 70s is truly iconic. It was genuinely hard for me to pick which song I wanted to do. “Stand by me” by Ben E. King is one of those iconic songs that I have just always known, I have no idea where I first heard it. I love this song for multiple reasons, not only does it have a great and relaxed beat, but the story it tells is so sweet, it’s a very feel good song. I actually think the original meaning behind the song is him singing to his “darling” and saying everything will be okay if she is there for him. But what I love is that whether we are in a relationship, have a love interest, or not, we can still relate to this song in some way. I personally think of my older sister. She is always there for me and I’m always there for her. Whenever he says “just as long as you stand by me” I think of times that I felt alone or overwhelmed, and I remember how my sister was always just a call away. I'm "In The Mood" for some quality music

  Despite what the title says, I am more in the mood for some ice cream right now. And before I get to the music I would like to formally apologize for the cheesy title.  "In The Mood" by Glenn Miller While writing about a song, I normally like imagining where I’d be while listening to each song. But this one was a bit harder for me. I first thought of a restaurant and listening to it as background music. But that didn’t fit, so I thought about a dance hall, which also felt weird. I ended up in a big auditorium, on the balcony, looking out at a big band with an enthusiastic director waving his arms around, with a big smile on his face, just happy to be there. A key thing I want to point out with this song is it's repetitiveness. It plays one part, comes to a complete stop, which always gets me cause I always think the song is over; then goes into the same thing again.
