"When we're out together dancing..."

Two things keep going through my head as I listen to this song. The first is Disney (specifically Pixar) and the second is Christmas. I swear there is a Disney movie that has a lot of jazzy music. If not, I know for sure that many popular Christmas songs are performed by Louis Armstrong, and have the same vibe as “Cheek to Cheek”. I even remember going to my uncle's place one Christmas, he made fresh apple cider and had jazz playing in the background as we talked. I think many people can relate when I talk about judging a song based on how it makes me feel. I really enjoyed this song because I could imagine myself both sitting by a warm fire with some hot chocolate, and also going out with some friends for some extravagant evening. I love thinking about Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald performing this to an audience. I wonder what the venue would’ve been like. I think of couples slow dancing, there are some people enjoying a drink with their friends, and there is a very warm feeling there. I find it amazing that a song can convey feelings like this, and I haven’t even referred to the lyrics. I can see why “Cheek to Cheek” by Irving Berlin was so popular at it’s time. People needed to find something to take away the worries of life, this song doesn’t remind them of the bad, and it’s very relaxing. Honestly, who knew a song that is almost 100 years old could still be so iconic.

  1. I love that you think of a memory. I think most of Disney movies have jazz music in it or some sort of it. I love that you imagine what it would be liked if you were there when they were performing. How it feels and what they other people are doing. I think that jazz is very relaxing and you can just sit and listen in an arm chair reading a book with a fire going with hot chocolate.
